In this post, we present to you, very brief biographies of those whom we will be learning from at the Nursing Career Summit, which is set to start in a few hours.

Prof. B.L. Ajibade

[HOST]

Work experience: University of Ife Teaching Hospital (OAUTHC) Ile-Ife, Department of Perinatology, OAU, Ile-Ife Medical Centre, School of Nursing, 7th Day Adventist School of Nursing, Ile-Ife

Awards acquired: Best Tutor Award (Seventh Day Adventist Health International) Award of Excellence by Ejigbo Local Government Students’ Association Award of Excellent Leadership by NUNSA Award of Excellence by Fellow Nurses Africa

A Member of: NANNM, FWACN, Board Member, NMCN, Counselling Association of Nigeria, Association of Nigeria Nurse Educators

Publications – Among tens of thesis and articles are: Psychological impact of cancer on patients and implications for Nurses, Adjustment styles and expression of PTSD among Police men in Ogbomosho

Current research activities: Among others: Mental Health service users’ perception of sedation, secousion and restraint

Community services: Among others; Assisted in the construction of PHC at Aran-Orin, Kwara State, Assisted in the establishment of Community Health Unit at 7th Day Adventist Hospital, Ile-Ife.

Dr. Golden Masika

Dr. Golden M Masika currently works as a lecturer and academic coordinator at the School of Nursing, University Dodoma, Dodoma, Tanzania. He obtained his Ph.D. at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020. His thesis focused on ‘Intervention strategies to improve cognitive health and prevent dementia among older people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in the African context. Dr. Golden has an MSc. In Critical Care and Trauma Nursing of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, Tanzania in 2015, and BSc. Nursing from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2005. He had an opportunity for a short course on Culture and Health and Primary Health Care from the Upsala University, Sweden in 2005 and an Online Certificate in Clinical management of HIV from the University of Washing in 2010. Dr. Golden has worked as a consultant, technical advisor, and facilitator in various health-related projects, guidelines, and curriculum development initiatives in Tanzania supporting both the government (Ministry of Health), development partners, and training institutions. He has also been involved in research projects and published several papers in various reputable peer-reviewed journals. His current project focuses on the development and evaluation of the efficacy of the short messages program in the continuum of cancer care among children who have received chemotherapy at Muhimbili National Hospital. 

Prof. Olaide Edet 

Professor Olaide Edet is a strategic thinker, committed collaborator, self-driven, innovative, and resourceful scholar, and leader, with a passion for promoting effective Nursing scholarship and leadership. Has over three decades experience as a nurse educator, nurse scholar, health educator /promoter, and researcher

She’s a foundation staff of the Department of Nursing Science, joined the University of Calabar on transfer as Lecturer II in 1995, and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Community Health Nursing, Acting Head of Department, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences and the pioneer Coordinator of the Graduate Nursing Programme.

Professor Olaide Edet received her B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Nursing, with a focus on nursing education and Public Health/Community Health Nursing from the prestigious premier University of Ibadan.

She received her MPH degree from the same University with a focus on health education/health promotion. She has been a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing since 2001.

She is a graduate of the highly esteemed Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI) an ICN program pioneering leadership, management, and negotiation skill development among nurses for more than 20 years, through the highly successful Leadership for ChangeTM (LFC) and Leadership in Negotiation programs.

Ogungbe Olubunmi

Bunmi is working with the Gender Equity thematic area to describe and mitigate the impact of power, oppression, and discrimination on health and well-being, with an emphasis on reducing gender-based violence, promoting empowerment, creating equitable health systems, and to advance sexual and reproductive rights and health across global settings. Her research at the School of Nursing focuses on assessing cardiovascular disease risks among African immigrants.

Bunmi obtained her Master’s in Public Health degree, in Epidemiology, from Jackson State University, Mississippi. Her research experience includes quantitative and qualitative research on adolescent sexual and reproductive health, the cardiovascular health profile of Mississippi workers using the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, validation of self-reported hypertension status on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), and the intersectionality of implicit biases in public health. She is a co-author of several peer-reviewed articles. She has worked as a nurse clinician in various settings in the U.S., and as a nurse/midwife and family planning clinic service provider in Nigeria. She serves on the executive board of the American Public Health Association-Student Assembly as Treasurer-elect.

Adeola Folorunso

Adeola started her career in Nursing as a Registered Nurse in Nigeria after completing her Diploma In Nursing. She has won numerous awards in Nursing and enjoys providing freelance services for Health.

Adeola is married with two children, and she enjoys traveling as a form of learning.

Oladayo Afolabi

Oladayo Afolabi is a Registered Nurse (Nigeria and UK) and Health Policy Analyst who graduated with a BNSc degree from the Department of Nursing, LAUTECH in 2008. In 2010. He completed a master’s degree in health planning and management at the University of Maiduguri before winning the Muritala Muhammed International Postgraduate scholarship to study a second MSc in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at London Metropolitan University, London, the UK in 2012. 

He has won a lot of scholarships and mentors and supports other nurses in improving their writing skills and putting together competitive applications for scholarships and grants. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative care, policy and rehabilitation, Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative care, King’s College London, London, UK.

Odunayo Kolawole

Odunayo Kolawole is a registered nurse both in the UK and Nigeria and he’s a registered nurse Anesthetist in Nigeria. He specializes in Adult nursing, Urology and Renal transplant, Theatre Nursing, Critical care, and anesthesia and is currently a Ph.D. student at the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Huddersfield UK and staff nurse University Hospitals of Leicester.

Adefolake Olatunde

Adefolake Olatunde is a Registered nurse who currently works at Riverlee Sanctuary Residential and Nursing home in London, United Kingdom.

Adefolake has about four years of experience providing person-centered care to older adults living with dementia and other chronic illnesses. 

Adeleke obtained a BNSc from Lautech, Nigeria as well as certificates as a Registered Nurse, Midwife, and Public Health Nursing officer before going to the UK. She has been a volunteer for various WHO immunization programs in Nigeria and has gained many experiences working in various private hospitals as well as a fertility clinic in Lagos state, Nigeria.

Egorp Emmanuel

Egorp Emmanuel is a graduate nurse midwife with a master’s in Public Health. Currently, he works as the GBV Programming Advisor with UNFPA at the Maiduguri Decentralized Sub-Office, supporting Gender-Based Violence (GBV) innovative programming and implementation in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states in Nigeria’s North East region. 

He has over seven (7) years of experience in health policy development & system strengthening, results-based financing (PBF/DFF), program management, and partnership building in multiple states, to deliver on both development and humanitarian program objectives at local, state, and national levels.

Oluwadamilare Akingbade

Oluwadamilare Akingbade is a dynamic community health nursing specialist passionate about impacting families and communities through research while building the capacity of nurses in scholarly endeavors. He graduated from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology of Ogbomoso in the year 2011 where he was certified as a nurse, midwife, and public health nurse. He proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he bagged a master’s degree in Community Health Nursing in the year 2017. He is currently running a fully-funded Ph.D. Nursing program at the Nethersole School of Nursing University, Chinese University of Hong Kong.

A lover of research, Damilare alongside other like-minded nurse-researchers at Fellowship of Christian Nurses founded the Institute of Nursing Research, Nigeria; a non-governmental organization passionate about building the capacity of nurses in research and dissemination of findings. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the institute and a resource person at the institute’s journal club. A writer to the core, he has several publications in peer-reviewed journals to his credit.

Tola Yetunde 

Tola Yetunde obtained her first degree in nursing from the prestigious Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, Nigeria.

After her first degree, she worked as a staff nurse at Getwell hospital Agege, Lagos, and later at Krown specialist hospital Araromi, Lagos state. She was then posted to Ebonyi state for her youth service corps where she served at the Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) of the Ebonyi state ministry of health.

Yetunde proceeded to obtain her master’s in nursing science from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, where she got a fully-funded scholarship. Yetunde has published her Masters’s research in an International scientific indexed (ISI) journal – International Nursing Review Journal, a journal of the international council of Nurses (ICN).

Yetunde is currently in her second year of a doctoral degree at the Nethersole School of Nursing, Chinese University of Hong Kong where she was awarded a fully-funded scholarship. She is majoring in cancer, postoperative care, and pain management.

Yetunde is currently the Director of Research and Statistics at the Institute of Nursing Research, Nigeria. She is also a lecturer at the health department of the Osiri University.

Emmanuel Adesuyi

Emmanuel O. Adesuyi was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He received a bachelor’s degree in nursing science from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria, in 2012, and a Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, and Medical Statistics specialty alongside other certifications from the same university. He is also registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of the United Kingdom as a nurse (Adult nursing).

He is very vast in information computer technology, as he believes research in the 21st century should be faster and more credulous due to the rapid increase in the application of new technologies to research processes and studied different courses to be able to use the computer system.

Solomon Jegede

Solomon was born in Zaria City, Kaduna state. He attended St George’s nur/pry school Zaria and proceeded to Ate grammar school, Oka Akoko, Ondo state. He was a pioneer student of the department of nursing Lautech, pioneer president of Nunsa Lautech, past president Health Advocate Club Lautech, founding chairman of FABAMSA LAUTECH. He graduated in the 2007/2008 academic session.

He proceeded to serve the country through the NYSC where his sterling performance was recognized by the president and commander in chief of the armed forces with the meritorious NYSC Award. As a recipient of the distinguished award, he was automatically enrolled into the federal civil service commission as a nursing officer and honored with post-graduate scholarship up to a Ph.D. level in any university of his choice around the globe.

Solomon had his professional qualifications of registration with the nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria as a nurse, midwife, and public health nurse. He is also a pioneer student of the department of community medicine Lautech, where he had a master’s degree in Public health.

Tobi Omolere

Tobi Omolere is a registered public health nurse with passion for occupational psychology and health of people living with disabilities. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is the founder and coordinator of Nursing Conception Initiative (NCI), an organization with a sole vision and duty of promoting the public profile of our benevolent nursing profession.

He is an author with three books to his credit (Chronicle of Realities, Rhapsody of Humour and Dear Med-Intern) He is the CEO of OAUEVENTS, an event planning and promotion firm which he recently acquired from the founder and former CEO (David Adesina). He is a political enthusiast and a former leader at NUNSA National where he chaired the planning committee for Enugu 2017 National Convention.
