Our Story

The institute was launched in May 2016 at the zonal conference of Fellowship of Christian Nurses, South-West zone held at Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. The institute was borne out of the need to build the capacity of nurses in research and impact families and communities through clinically oriented and community-based researches. It is our desire that no nurse will find research a tall order.

INRN comprises research-oriented nursing students, nurse-clinicians, nurse-academics, and nurse-administrators passionate about impacting families and communities through research. Over the past years, the institute has organized physical and virtual research workshops, a campaign against rape, and a Nursing Academic Summit.

The institute has provided guidance for her members in disseminating their research findings through publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation in scientific conferences. Similarly, the institute published a handbook- Nursing Research made Easy- a tool to guide early career researchers. While the initiative started from south-west Nigeria; however, the organizational reach and influence have spread to other geopolitical zones in Nigeria, other countries in Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada and Hong Kong where members of the institute are currently domiciled.

Furthermore, the members of the institute are passionate about career advancement as many have embarked on postgraduate Nursing programs locally and internationally. Recently in a bid to further deepen the research competencies of nurses and nursing students, the institute collaborated with the Nigerian Universities Nursing Students Association (NUNSA) and National Association of Nigerian Students Nurses and Midwives (NANSNM) to establish ‘journal clubs’ which is a platform for research collaboration and mentorship for early nurse-researchers. The club publishes a quarterly newsletter named ‘Nursing Cable’. Plans are currently underway in the institute to launch an online peer-reviewed journal titled Advanced Journal of Nursing Research.
